Brett Dalton graduated in 2001 from Westmont High School in Campbell, California, where he was California Scholarship Federation President and Associated Student Body President. Brett became interested in acting after auditioning for a production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He played the lead in My Favorite Year. After studying at University of California, Berkeley for his undergraduate degree, Brett received a Master of Fine Arts from Yale University in 2011. One of his Yale classmates was Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o.
Brett has written a play entitled Footprints in the Snow, which has been performed for the Broadway League, and was produced by FRESH PRODUCE’d.
Brett’s first acting job after grad school was in the indie dramedy, Beside Still Waters, co-written, produced and directed by Chris Lowell. Brett plays James Millar, a struggling actor turned reality star, who is less than truthful when it comes to his own romantic life.
In November 2012, Brett was cast in a starring role in the Joss Whedon produced TV series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as Grant Ward. The series takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is currently airing its third series.
During the 2014 hiatus of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Brett filmed an indie drama film, Lost in Florence (formerly The Tourist), appearing in his first movie lead role as Eric Lazard, a heartbroken former college football star who gets in over his head with both a dangerous Florentine sport, and an alluring local woman. Brett stars along-side Stana Katic and Alessandra Mastronardi.
The Resurrection of Gavin Stone, filmed in May 2015, stars Brett in the title role of Gavin Stone, and is his largest movie to date. The film tells the fictional story of a washed-up former child actor, who pretends to be a person of faith so he can portray Jesus in a passion play being produced by a megachurch.
Brett’s first professional voice and motion-capture role was as the character of Mike Munroe in Until Dawn. Released in 2015, Until Dawn is an ‘action survival horror’ video game developed by Supermassive Games, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4.
During the summer of 2016 Brett will be filming a short action thriller entitled Trust No One. Written and produced by Simon Kassianides, the film will co-star Brett and Caitriona Balfe, and was successfully funded via Kickstarter in March 2016.
Brett lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Melissa Trn, and their daughter Sylvia.
