“You don’t even know the game I’m playing…”
The last time we saw Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), his operation had seemingly been compromised when May (Ming-Na Wen) and Hunter (Nick Blood) caught up with him, and the latter shot the leader of Hydra in the back. After a short hiatus, Ward has returned and he’s more determined than ever to get his revenge against S.H.I.E.L.D. and those who have wronged him.
Ordering his Hydra recruits around while his injured arm sits in a sling, the new Director of Hydra takes a mysterious phone call. Who’s on the other line? Well, it’s Gideon Malick (Powers Booth), the ‘Head’ all the others were afraid, of course. That is before Ward took over.
The two have a short but very intense conversation that teases Ward’s new game plan. With an interesting choice of words such as “redemption” being thrown around, fans are likely to get their speculating gears going during this next episode of the series.
It’s no secret that there is a very vocal fan base for the character that has been campaigning for him to get redeemed since he was revealed as a Hydra Sleeper Agent back in season one. When Ward says that he “doesn’t need redeeming”, on the surface it might mean the character is too far gone. But everyone knows that with this show, anything’s possible.
Will this new mysterious character set Ward on the path to redemption? Or will Ward go further into the dark side? Only time will tell. You’ll just have to wait and see.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9PM on ABC
