Brett Dalton is Jake in 'The Understudy'
“The Understudy,” is a backstage comedy by Theresa Rebeck and Brett Dalton will be headlining as Jake in the upcoming season at the Wesport Country Playhouse. Set in a broadway theater, the play centers around the understudy who has been called in to cover Jake, a C-list movie star trying to gain some stage cred.
The play itself focuses on the American obsession with celebrity and the way that it has corrupted the theater industry. Jake is the quintessential movie star, with a toned physique and air of smug satisfaction at his blossoming career. His latest movie is a hit, and he’s playing Kafka on Broadway alongside an even bigger movie star. In the titular role of the understudy, Harry becomes increasingly angry at Jake's wooden performance.
Starring alongside Brett Dalton are Eric Bryant as Harry (WCP's "Room Service" and "The Invisible Hand", for which he won the 2017 Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play) and Andrea Syglowski as Roxanne ("A Doll's House" - IRNE Award nomination for Best Actress; "Venus in Fur" - Elliot Norton Award and IRNE Award for Best Actress; recipient of Robin Williams Scholarship). The play is directed by David Kennedy, in his tenth season as Playhouse associate artistic director.
The Understudy season runs from August 14 to September 1.
Tickets can be purchased via the Wesport Country Playhouse.
